Will the treatment hurt?
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the least painful medical procedures. Treatments themselves take a matter of minutes, and we practice all available injection techniques to reduce discomfort. Our clinics use ultra-thin needles to decrease any discomfort you may experience during treatments. If required, a topical anaesthetic can be used to numb the skin prior to the injection process. This process takes 30 mins in total, and will require you to attend your appointment 30 minutes early.
Will people know I have had a treatment?
At revitalise cosmetics we specialise in a natural looking result. We inject the minimum amount required to give a fantastic aesthetic result without giving a frozen appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections work over 3-10 days and results and any changes will occur slowly and subtly. People may realise you look more refreshed or "less-tired" without knowing why.
What happens as the treatment wears off?
The results of anti-wrinkle injections generally last 3-4 months. As its effects wear off, the skin will return to its natural, pre-treatment state. If you decide against further injections, your skin will be left in the same condition it was before treatment; it will not be any more wrinkled than it was before treatment.
What is in muscle relaxants?
Muscle relaxants consist of a purified version of a naturally occurring protein. When injected into targeted muscles, these products work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscle. This controlled weakening reduces muscle movement, causing the wrinkles over the muscles to become smoother.
Will the results last forever?
No, the correction is temporary. The results last between 3 months and a year, depending on the product used, the facial area treated, and your body's ability to absorb the injected material. Many patients undergo regular touch-up injections in order to maintain their rejuvenated appearance. If you opt not to undergo regular injections, the treated area will gradually return to its pre-treatment appearance.
Which facial areas may be treated?
Muscle relaxants and dermal fillers have been used successfully to treat most areas of the face. These treatments are appropriate for facial enhancement, filling in lines, wrinkles, and depressions, and smoothing wrinkles caused by facial muscles. Common treatment areas include forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow's feet, jawline, chin, marionette lines, lips, and smile lines.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
One of the worries many patients express is that the injections will make it impossible for them to move their faces. While muscle relaxants do relax the muscle activity causing wrinkles, when used correctly they should not affect your ability to frown, look surprised, and make other facial movements. When overdone, muscle relaxants do have a tendency to cause a frozen appearance. However, at revitalise cosmetics, our practitioners are skilled at using the right amount of product. You will not look as though you've had "work done" and will still be able to move your facial muscles.
What is the ideal age to begin injectable treatments?
Many patients begin receiving injections of dermal fillers or muscle relaxants as soon as they start seeing signs of wrinkles. Others wait until their wrinkles are more substantial before seeking treatment. There is no reason to delay seeking cosmetic injections. Many patients undergo decades of repeated treatments with no ill effects. While most patients begin seeking treatment in their early 30s or 40s, it can be performed safely on patients who are both younger and older. Some patients in their 20's have injectable treatments to prevent wrinkles and lines from forming.
What can I expect immediately following treatment?
Immediately afterwards, minor side effects such as redness, swelling, itching and bruising are common. The treated area may also feel tender. These effects usually last 2-3 days and do not prevent patients from returning to work and other normal activities immediately after leaving our office. Muscle relaxants take about a week for the full effect to show.
Do the results of treatment differ between people?
Yes, individual results do vary. The experienced doctors at revitalise cosmetics can provide optimum results for each patient through careful evaluation of their individual concerns and aesthetic goals. This enables us to provide a personalised treatment and use the right amount of product to achieve the results you desire.
How long does the injecting take?
The injection process itself is over in just a few moments. You can expect to spend an hour or less in the office. This hour includes time to consult with your practitioner, as well as steps occurring prior to the actual injections, such as applying a topical anaesthetic and planning where the injections are to be made. As soon as the injection process is complete, patients are free to leave the office.
How often can I receive injections?
Many patients return for another round of injections when they see the results of the initial treatment wearing off. This can be anywhere from 3 to 12 months, depending on the treatment area, the type of muscle relaxant used and other factors. If you wish to further enhance your appearance, it may be possible to undergo additional injections sooner. Your practitioner can help you decide whether you might benefit from additional injections.
Are cosmetic injections just for women?
No. Many men have also benefited from these treatments. Our male patients frequently request muscle relaxant or dermal filler injections on their forehead, between their brows, and on other areas of their face they feel make them look older or more tired than they really are.
Who should administer cosmetic injections?
In Australia, only a doctor or nurse under the supervision of a medical doctor may inject muscle relaxants and most dermal fillers. For a safe treatment and optimum results, only a fully trained, highly experienced practitioner should administer cosmetic injections. At revitalise cosmetics, we only use doctors to administer treatments.
Are muscle relaxants right for me?
Muscle relaxants may be right for you if you have facial wrinkles such as smile lines or horizontal forehead creases caused by overactive muscles. This treatment does not work on wrinkles caused by loss of skin elasticity or volume. Dermal fillers are a more appropriate treatment for those wrinkles. Most adults who are in good overall health can undergo anti-wrinkle injections.
